The Behavior Code Companion delivers a helpful inventory of concrete and practical resources for the development and implementation of successful behavior intervention plans for students.
Special educator and behavioral analyst Jessica Minahan, coauthor of The Behavior Code, delivers a companion guide for educators and parents who want to better support students with challenging behaviors. Used by countless educators, the FAIR Behavior Intervention Plan has been proven to improve proactive classroom management, encourage positive teacher-student relationships, and reduce the need for school discipline.
In this book, Minahan offers a wealth of supplemental materials for each stage of the FAIR Behavior Intervention Plan—which involves determining the function (F) of the behavior, offering appropriate accommodations (A), implementing proactive intervention strategies (I), and practicing positive response strategies (R). Among other invaluable supports, she provides clear and direct exercises for brainstorming and reflection, a series of checklists to help with implementation and monitoring progress, and planning activities and templates that can be customized and put to use immediately. The author also recommends apps and other technology that can assist and simplify plan implementation.
Throughout the book, Minahan offers illustrative case studies, with a special focus on students with mental health diagnoses and those with anxiety-related or oppositional behaviors.
Filled with actionable advice, this highly useful resource gives educators and parents the tools to meet challenging behaviors with both confidence and compassion. This volume will help educators create optimal learning environments for all students.

Great Follow up to the Behavior Code
This a great book as a follow-up to the Behavior Code. It gives many more real life examples and allows you to practice different scenarios in the book.

Concerning behaviors are “codes” for lagging skills or unmet needs
Along with “The Behavior Code”, this book should be a go-to resource for school counselors, teachers and administrators. Author, Jessica Minahan, is a board-certified behavior analyst and special educator. She âgetsâ students who struggle with anxiety-related, opposition, withdrawn, or sexualized behaviors. She walks educators through the process of cracking the code, or understanding the hidden message behind a studentâs concerning behavior, then offers plenty of practical strategies that can be used in schools to help students manage strong emotions and communicate their needs in more productive ways. We use Minahanâs expertise to inform and guide our SEL lessons across our tiers of support. Self- regulation, positive thinking, flexible thinking, and executive functioning, and social skills are essential for the success of all students!

A New Look at Intervention for Problem Behaviors
Jessica Minihanâs book is a great resource for gaining understanding of the less noticed and often discounted influences on problem behavior, in particular the underlying mental health challenges. Ms. Minihan suggests intervening earlier in the chain of problem behavior in order to teach underdeveloped skills and to teach and reinforce strategies that promote behavioral regulation. This method of intervention compares favorably to the more traditional behavior plans that place a greater emphasis on the terminal behaviors targeted for increase and decrease. The Behavior Code: Companion will enhance the quality and success of any behavioral intervention plan and ultimately benefit the most needy students in our education system.

I recommend this book (and the Behavior Code text as well) …
The Behavior Code Companion is a really helpful book for teachers who are struggling with challenging student behaviors in their classrooms. Jessica Minahan is able to share strategies and specific templates for behavior plans that teachers can put into practice right away. Her text is user friendly and mostly jargon-free, so that classroom teachers who are not behaviorists are able to take things from the book and implement them. Minahan’s writing is accessible and you feel supported in your work just by reading the book. I recommend this book (and the Behavior Code text as well) for every classroom teacher and school administrator.David S.

My daughter loved this book.
Bought this for my daughter who is a behavior specialist teacher and she says it is very detailed and will help her when coaching other teachers on dealing with students that have behavior issues. She has now made it mandatory for all her behavior teachers order this book so they all are on the same teaching methods.
