I’m giving the product 4 stars because it really is an effective product and it usually works pretty fast. I deducted a star because over time my skin seems to adapt and the product stops working for me. It takes a while for this to happen, but when it gets to that point I have to find an alternative. I don’t know how common this is. I stopped using it recently and switched to another skin care system for this reason. Some other downsides that I know others have experienced that I can verify are that this product can be a bit drying, so make sure you get a good moisturizer that will not cause flare ups. Also, as this product contains benzoyl peroxide, it may bleach clothing. I’ve never had a big problem with this aside from noticing spots inside a few shirts that did not actually seep through, but it is something to be aware of.This is just an aside but in my experience (I’ve used Proactiv on and off for 7 years), especially as time goes by, you really need the whole set for it to be effective, not just the cleanser. So, consider that if you are purchasing for the first time and find the product doesn’t work for you. I always use this in conjunction with the other two items it usually comes with (toner, lotion), and also the refining mask. It could be a downside if money is an issue and you are just looking for a cleanser. I purchased this bottle individually because I always run out of each product at different times.
