Solid book for reactive dogs
I grabbed this book after my rescue dog started barking at his shadow and lunging on walks. It was very stressful and I didn’t know how to deal with it as a first time dog owner. The book helped me so much. The author breaks it down into simple and step-by-step guides, with clear explanations on why dogs get fearful, and practical exercises like desensitization games and confidence building tricks. The positive reinforcement approach aligned with my humane values and focuses on using treats instead of corrections. This book is solid and encouraging that has helped me and my dog be much happier and less stressed.

A Compassionate and Practical Approach
What stood out right away was the author’s understanding and nonjudgmental approach. They donât make you feel like youâre failing; they help you understand whatâs going on inside your dog. Whether itâs fear, pain, or anxiety, the explanations are clear and compassionate. It made me feel like I wasnât alone. The best part? The techniques are practical, easy to follow, and rooted in respect for the dog. From TTouch to BAT and LAT, everything is laid out in a way that makes it doable, even with a busy schedule. I especially appreciated the section on breaking up dog fights; those tips were invaluable. The illustrations, stories, and extra resources bring everything together. Actionable Remedies
This book contains compassionate, science-based advice that helps you understand “why” dogs react, and what you can do to help them. It covers how our stresses and behaviors can influence their reactions. It gives explanations of canine body language, emotional triggers, and training strategies (TTouch is one I have never heard of and am going to implement for sure). It offers practical, step-by-step tools you can use in daily life; no harsh methods for trust-building, and positive reinforcement. This book gives you tools if you’re managing leash reactivity, aggression, fear, or post-trauma behavior to create a calmer, more connected relationship with your dog. Insightful, hopeful, and easy to follow. This book is not a “how to train a dog” but a guide to navigate the reactions of an anxious or fearful dog with actionable remedies. If you are looking for a book to train a puppy or an untrained dog, this is not the book. If you have a trained dog but it exhibits these characteristics, this book will be a valuable tool to help address these issues. I recommend this book.
