Awesome book for kids (or adults) needing simple steps to teach training and tricks
I love this book! I have multiple dogs of my own, we foster dogs, and we recently ended up adopting one of our fosters. When we adopted him, I got my kids this book and itâs been a hit. They have taught him down, crawl, and roll over, and have also used some of the puzzle ideas. I raved about it with other fosters in my rescue and a few adults bought it for themselves. I also suggest it anytime we have an adopter who has kids.

Excellent
Far exceeded my expectations. While aimed at kids this book would be valuable for dog owners of any age. It’s clearly written and the Table of Contents and Index make it easy to find specific topics. I especially like that safety suggestions for both dog and human are highlighted in yellow. Along with basic training chapters there are chapters on more advanced tricks and games to play with your dog.

Absolutely Fantastic Resource for Kids and Adults!
I cannot recommend Dog Training for Kids by Vanessa Estrada Marin enough! This book has been a game-changer for our family as we welcomed a new puppy. While itâs written with kids in mind, itâs just as helpful for adults. The language is clear and easy to understand, and the step-by-step instructions are simple to follow. Iâd say itâs perfect for kids around 2nd grade (7 years old) and up.What makes this book stand out is how incredibly organized it is. Whether you’re looking for a specific command, behavior issue, or question, it’s super easy to flip to the exact section you need. It even includes troubleshooting tips and sample daily schedules by age, which we found incredibly helpful. Our 8-year-old has really taken more ownership and responsibility with our puppy thanks to this book. For some reason, when we say, âDonât keep repeating the commandâwait 10 seconds to give the puppy time to respond,â it doesnât quite land. But when the book says it? Instant compliance! It really empowers kids to learn and practice training in a fun, structured way.As a bonus, I took it to our local UPS store and had it spiral bound. Now I can lay it flat on the counter or fold it back and hold it with one hand while trainingâso convenient!Whether you’re a brand-new puppy owner or have some experience under your belt, this book is a must-have for both kids and adults. Truly one of the most practical and enjoyable training books we’ve used.

Perfect for kids.
Grandkids got a golden retriever puppy for Christmas so I got them this book. The book is well organized, fun to read and the instructions and explanations are great. My granddaughter is reading this book almost everyday as part of her homework. The only problem weâve had is the puppy, Lilly, tries to eat the book when the kids leave it out.

Niece loves it
My 10yr old niece recently got a pair of dogs. She loves them and she loves reading books. This was the perfect gift for her as there are lots of pictures and very easy to understand for the young ones. She uses it regularly as a reference and that’s a big win in my book.

Misses some topics; It’s for older kids
I bought this for my 10 year old nephew and his 9 month old puppy. This book is thick with lots of small print, I hope it will hold his interest.I was very frustrated that it doesn’t say anything about biting/nipping. That’s a big problem with most pups. It only says that dogs will “mouth” and that’s how they play with other dogs. Nothing about how to correct that.Just received it an hour ago. I’m going to peruse it a little more, it’s up in the air if I’m going to return it.

Wonderful reward based training, it does have American English, but that hasn’t been an issue. Lovely to see our son reach for the book and learn
