Understand human behavior and social psychology – and then you can understand yourself and the people around you.
Let’s face it – most of the problems that we encounter in our lives aren’t about the situation, it’s about the person in front of you. Whether it’s a parent, sibling, co-worker, or even significant other, there might be a gap in understanding. That’s reasonable and normal.
But what if you could learn to understand people, their motivations, what makes them tick, and ultimately how to connect with them better? This is renowned author Patrick King’s specialty: distilled emotional intelligence that helps you decipher why people do the things that they do.
He combines his natural instinct for human analysis with a plethora of the latest scientific research in the field to bring you the end result you want: better relationships, high self-esteem and confidence, self-understanding, and overall fulfillment and happiness.

Learn How to Read and Relate to People no Matter What Kind of Person You Are
This book emphasizes the idea that people have primary and secondary emotions. It teaches you how to learn about someone first by observing them, then asking them non-threatening questions, then observing details. The book brings forth some ideas strongly.I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I found this book good to hone my skills of analyzing my patients and then being better informed to help them. I recommend this book to therapists and anyone who wants to learn how to connect to people the right way.

Clear, concise, usually correct.
All things you want to see in a book about human behavior 🙂 Easy read, good tips, good examples. There were a couple that seemed a little off the mark, psychologically speaking, like when a person says “I’m fine” and presses their lips together and turns away – the author’s interpretation is that this person is trying to conceal their irritation, but you can note the patterns and pick up on it. Generally it’s the opposite. A person expressing intentional body language is not trying to conceal their irritation but make it clear without verbally owning up to it.There are other examples of this throughout the book that I think could use a little more research into manipulation psychology, a MASSIVE and important part of being able to understand human behavior beyond just the surface level. But overall, solid read!

Super readable and informative
I love Patrick King’s conversational writing style. That makes a book that could be on the heavy side a pleasure to read. The first hint that this book will be readable and enjoyable is the title. It’s not stuffy and lays things out. The book is in this same vein. Written in first person, you feel like you’re having a good friend explain their ideas to you.I read the book mainly because I aspire to writing fiction, and felt that being able to “decode” people would lead to the creation of stronger, multi-dimensional characters. I haven’t yet started on my next creative writing project, but I do believe this book makes me a better conversationalist because it teaches the reader to listen!Whatever your purpose for reading: personal development, creative writing, a specific professional need, this book will be an engaging read and will give you concrete information that you can apply to your relationships–professional and personal.

I love Patrick King. This book is pretty dense compared with other books of his collection but very good. Recommended.
